"GOP Releases Plan to Save America from the Poor"

That damn Jonathan Chait. You can't find a funnier way to sum him up or title your damn blog post linking to him. You just have to quote him.
The House Republicans unveiled their new budget today, complete with a spooky video pressing home the point that only the House Republicans and their leader Paul Ryan stand between us and CIVILIZATIONAL COLLAPSE. Yes, the peril of rising debt is that bad. No, it’s not so bad that it’s worth restoring Clinton-era tax rates to prevent. But so bad that it’s worth throwing tens of millions of people off health insurance? Oh, yeah.
Can't improve on that snark. But you know who could kick Chait's ass? Meryl Streep, that's who.

  1. Strange thing is how is this "good" politics? The House Leadership knows this can't pass. It will hurt their attempt to beat Obama. I don't think Mitt will even adopt it. Is the House Leadership totally out of control?JL

  2. Yes, they are. The only politics they respect is that of the True Believers on the right wing of the party.

  3. In fact, Ryan's pseudo-budget doesn't cut enough for some:

“I will be voting no,” said Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS). “It’s not good enough.”

He argued that the budget resolution does not adequately address tax reform, balance the budget quickly enough or cut spending down to the levels promised under the GOP’s 2010 “Pledge To America” manifesto.

The other panelists were Reps. Raúl Labrador (ID), Jeff Landry (LA), Jeff Duncan (SC), Ted Poe (TX), Louie Gohmert (TX) and David Schweikert (AZ). All of them hedged when asked how they plan on voting — some said they need to take a closer look while others expressed concerns.
