Another proud member of the irony-based community.
"Mysterious Jackson area lawyer's blog about history, literature, and whatever irks him." -- NMC
"Just a hypersensitive pantywaist probably of Gallic descent who still suffers nightmares over what Gaius Julius did to your people 2,000 years ago." -- Kingfish
And therefore, reader, I myself am the subject of my book; it is not reasonable that you should employ your leisure on a topic so frivolous and so vain.
-- Montaigne, Essays, "To the Reader.""I shall see myself, I shall read myself, I shall go into ecstacies, and I shall ask -- Is it possible that I have so much ésprit?"
-- Nietzsche, Twilight of the Idols.... the torturer has become – like the pirate and slave trader before him – hostis humani generis, an enemy of all mankind.

Have you given The Dead Weather a listen? Try Horehound. If you like Bikini Kill then you should love Jack White's newest incarnation.
ReplyDeleteNay and nay. Maybe it won't take me 20 years to get around to them. Thanks!
ReplyDelete(Scary news: I am one year *younger* than Kathleen Hanna.)
Hey, it took me thirty years to give the New York Dolls a second chance, by which time I was laughing at all the bands I liked when they were "new" that stole wildly from them.
ReplyDeleteShould we start a thread here or on my blog about interesting music picked up during the last year? Thanks to Spotify (where I gave the Dolls another chance), I'm finding more to mention than usual... And it may give music geeks a chance to scoff at my "Meh" reaction to the giant multi-disk issue of the Smile sessions.
Oh, your place, definitely.
ReplyDeleteFinally breaking down and getting an iPhone next month, it seems, so I may take the leap into iTunes as well.
If Smile had been that great, it would've come out 30 years ago. And even then. Sly's Riot Goin On would've been better as a lost carton of tapes ....
I'm just a year behind you, Anderson. Always assumed you were older than that.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded some older Cary Hudson tunes yesterday. I need to get the new Wilco and give it a spin. I'll check out the Dolls while in the iTunes store.
Ignatius, if you liked Tyler Keith and the Preacher's Kids, you'd like the NY Dolls.
ReplyDeleteAw, this was an exceptionally good post. Spending some time and actual
ReplyDeleteeffort to create a good article… but what can I say… I put
things off a whole lot and don't manage to get nearly anything done.
