Obviously, the socialist rot began long ago

It was contended, in that case, just as here, that such an undertaking would be a complete departure from the concept of the forefathers and a step toward socialism; that, if this could be done, the State and its subdivisions could take over and operate every business and industry.
A recent judicial opinion on the constitutionality of "Obamacare"? Or the Mississippi Supreme Court's 1961 summary of the losing side's arguments in Albritton v. City of Winona, a 1938 case in which the court upheld the city's acquisition of a "hosiery, knitting and wearing apparel manufacturing plant"?

In unrelated news, the State of Mississippi does not appear to have taken over and operated every business and industry within its bounds, nor does it seem to be particularly close to doing so.

  1. I'm happy that you trust government bureaucrats. I happen to not; therefore, I will politely insist on keeping my freedom to make decisions for myself.

If you would like the government to make your decisions for you, by all means please volunteer. However, I would ask that you not foist your decision on the rest of us.

  2. I have Obamacare. I was uninsurable, but now I am not. I pay for it and am happy to do so. It's a win win situation!

  3. How awesome for you. I have coverage through work that I bargained for when I got hired, but I'm going to be losing it because it doesn't fit the "Obamacare" profile. I will instead have to pay more for another plan. Want to pick up the tab for me?

    That's what I thought.

Interesting if true. Is that what your employer told you? How bad does that "coverage" have to be not to qualify?

  5. The coverage can also be "too good." Have you had an opportunity to get into the details of the new regulations (the ones that have been passed) and the new statutes and how they will affect coverage offered by (and utilized by) small business owners? In many situations, a negotiated compromise between workers and the company with regard to certain coverage will no longer be acceptable. This means that Obamacare demands more coverage than the worker would have bargained for himself.

That is a feature, not a bug. Requiring everyone to have health insurance doesn't work if the insurance doesn't meet minimum standards.

Obviously, if my plan has a $10,000 deductible, or if it covers only $25,000 of expenses, the goal of the legislation isn't met.

The problem is where to draw the line, but that's legislation for ya.
